During the summer of 2018, the Dollar Ridge fire burned approximately 70,000 acres of watershed west of Starvation Reservoir. Following the fire, thunderstorms eroded the burn area causing sediment to wash down the slopes into the reservoir. This resulted in the lake becoming murky with organic carbon concentrations and algae. These water quality challenges required an operations study be conducted for remediation.
The Owner, Central Utah Water Conservancy District hired Carollo Engineers to conduct the design and engineering of the process improvement project. Thus, requiring additions to the existing plant that was originally constructed in the early 1980s.
The Bodell Construction team will build the second expansion to allow filtration of the sediment so the facility can continue to deliver culinary water for agriculture and drinking water for over 4,000 surrounding residents. The project took about two years to complete.
